Chrono Trigger is one of the best Square Enix (before it was Squaresoft) RPGs titles in decades. The game was created by the Dream Team (consist of Hironobu Sakaguchi, Yuji Horii and Akira Toriyama who does Dragon Ball Series). The plot of the game is you play as a young hero named Crono who travel through time along Marle (a princess), Lucca (childhood friend), Robo (who assist humans), Frog (originally was human), Magus (a former prince) and Ayla (a cave women who talks in 3 person) to fix the future from an alien parasitic Lavos.

The gameplay in most Square you have random encounters but not in this game. Enemies just sit there and what to be ambush and attacked. You have a choice in the game startup wait (plan your attack) or active (enemies will take even if you are not ready). Speaking of battle system I like it you have your attack and tech (which are magic and special movie), you can also use dual tech (2 or more of your character must have a turn and can attack at the same time). You have your standard items command to use in battle or map. Items can be purchase and sell along with armor and weapons. You can travel time anytime even if you are playing a story mission. I like the feel of the game such as the music composed by Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Umematsu give it up to them. The graphic are your standard 16 bit and I am very familiar with the character designer Akria Toriyama (who also did Dragon Quest another Square Enix).

Fun fact: Lucca, Crono and Marle appear in Chrono Cross. I am reviewing the SNES version but the PlayStation has anime FMV and it was animated by Toei Animation. Nintendo DS version had bonus content with dual-screen and more accurate translation. There is a fan made game called Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes you can check that out. If you are a JRPG fan this is the game for you. Chrono Trigger is available on SNES , Nintendo DS and PlayStation,  iOS and Android.
