Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories is an action role-playing game developed by Jupiter and published by Square Enix. This is one of the most popular Square Enix franchise that features Disney characters from your childhood and beyond. If you don’t know what Kingdom Hearts is I will give you a little backstory. The story revolves about a young boy named Sora who wants to his childhood friend from Darkness and he meets up with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy on his quest. Sora acquired the Keyblade (because he is the chosen one) and fight a dark creatures called heartless and stop Organization XIII (a group of Nobodies). It all start a discussion between Shinji Hashimoto and Hironobu Sakaguchi about Super Mario 64. They wanted to make a game with freedom of movement in 3D like Super Mario 64 but with Disney characters. Tetsuya Nomura heard the conversation between Shinji Hashimoto and Hironobu Sakaguchi and agreed to let them direct. Hashimoto had a chance to meet a Disney executive in an elevator because Disney and Square Enix at the same building.


Nomura could not come up a name of the game but he got Kingdom from Animal Kingdom in Disney Theme Park and the development team came up with “heart” based on the core story, then later on combine them for “Kingdom Hearts”. The story of the game is Sora journey to Castle Oblivion to search for King Mickey and cause them to lost piece of their memories in each floor is a new challenge. The gameplay is a hack and slash mix with action RPG elements and Goofy and Donald Duck are controlled by the computer. You have your jump, slash, scrolling through card and dodge buttons. In Chain of Memories, you have a card system which you execute and break enemies attack by setting them up with different combination. You obtain these are by defeating enemies and bosses or buy them. These are a different types of cards attack, magic and support and there are rank between 0 and 9. The graphics are standard 2D models from the PS2 era and the soundtrack is beautiful and Disney-like not to mention “Simple and Clean”. Fun Fact: You also meet Disney characters and worlds like Tarzan, The Lion King, Aladdin, Peter Pan and many others, also other Final Fantasy characters such as Squall, Aerith, and others appear in this game. If you are a Disney and Final Fantasy fan buy this game. Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories is available on Gameboy Advance and PlayStation 2. Also it’s on Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
